The Gift

For easter

Lord, in your tender mercy you
gave yourself to your world which had turned.
Your world, for which your love would leave
you broken, and with no relief
beaten, bloodied, murdered, spurned.

Lord, in love you gave yourself,
not of yourself but yourself, full and free.
You held nothing back and entered in
to cleanse every spot and every sin,
to free sinners, to free even me.

Lord, humble me to receive with thanks
and wonder and awe the gift of your son.
Where once was darkness, the shadow of death
you’ve now brought light, glorious new breath.
I thank you Lord for the great things you have done.
